Audi Drive
Not all driving situations are the same. The optional Audi drive select changes handling and response at the touch of a button to suit how you want to drive. There are four modes: Comfort, Dynamic, Auto and Individual.
For long-distances, comfort adjusts your set-up to create a more relaxing ride. The Dynamic setting changes the parameters for a sportier driving experience, adjusting steering and throttle response. The Auto mode adapts the system depending on the current driving situation while Individual, which is available in conjunction with a Satellite Navigation system, allows you to configure the dynamics of the car to your own preferences depending on what special equipment is fitted.
The sports differential enables the Quattro system to not only transfer torque between the front and rear axles to counter traction losses, but also between the rear wheels. When cornering, power is redirected to the outside rear wheel, literally pushing the car through the corner. The driver benefits from feeling more in control and the need to make small steering corrections, so familiar in an ordinary car, become a thing of the past.
Conventional stability management systems detect errors, and then correct them. We think that's a little late. The sport differential?s technology has such a short reaction time - less than 100 milliseconds, that any instability is sensed and dealt with before it has any effect.
The sport differential has been designed to work in tandem with Audi drive select. This enables you to change the characteristics of the engine, transmission, steering, shock absorbers and the active sport differential to suit your mood and the demands of the road.
The revolutionary S-tronic transmission combines the responsiveness of a manual gearbox with the convenience of an automatic. Thanks to innovative dual-clutch technology, S-tronic can make a gear change in just 0.2 of a second, with no interruption to the power flow, allowing you to benefit as fully as possible from the engine?s output at all times.
The Audi A5 is built on Audi's modular longitudinal platform. This innovative chassis enables the engine to mount behind the front axle instead of over it which helps to achieve a more even weight distribution between the front and rear wheels. The result is a car that corners with confidence and handles superbly.

Audi's servo-tronic steering was developed on the racetrack. It increases steering assistance based on vehicle and steering wheel angle. It senses when the wheel is turned and distributes the perfect amount of power assistance. So you can experience a more precise and responsive drive.
When you're coasting or braking, the car's alternator generates electricity. Recuperation allows it to be stored so when you're accelerating or driving at a constant speed, the stored electricity is used to drive the alternator. Recuperation reduces fuel consumption by up to 3% and also lowers CO2 emissions.
Aerodynamic performance is critical for reducing fuel consumption and raising efficiency. Audi prototypes spend over 1,000 hours in a wind tunnel with improvements being made so drag can be reduced. Less air resistance also means improved handling, lower CO2 emissions and even improved safety. Improvements such as door mirrors which are aerodynamically shaped so rain is directed away from the side windows for better all-round visibility is another notable product of this extensive development process.

The Audi A5 has a drag co-efficient of just 0.30
Individual driving styles play a significant part in determining fuel efficiency. The Driver's information system with efficiency program helps by providing valuable tips and information to enable the most efficient driving style at all times.
Selecting the right gear at the right time is key to reducing fuel consumption. The Driver's Information System has a gearshift indicator that tells you when to change gear and which gear to change to. By following the system's recommendations, you?ll drive more efficiently.
Comfort features such as air conditioning and seat heating increase fuel consumption. The efficiency program helps you monitor this by telling you which systems in the car require additional energy and how high their share of fuel consumption is.
Because the efficiency program continuously monitors fuel consumption and calculates how to optimize fuel efficiency, it is always on hand to provide helpful tips. For example, the program will advise you to close an open window while the air conditioning is switched on.
DRIVER AIDS AND COMFORT - Everything where it should be
The A5 cabin puts some premium luxury cars to shame with its level of refinement, attention to detail and superb finish. And, as you would expect from Audi, the instrumentation is the embodiment of clarity. Thanks to the cockpit's ergonomics, your hand falls naturally to the control you need. It all helps to create an instinctive, intuitive and satisfying driving experience.
The Driver's Information System (DIS) is a large, clear digital display in the centre of the instrument panel. It provides a range of information, from the outside temperature to the estimated range possible with the current amount of fuel.

Adjustments on the driver's seat and steering wheel help you find your perfect driving position. The intuitive switches for adjusting the seats are conveniently located on the side on the seat.
The optional Audi side assist offers a safe lane-changing solution even if there's another vehicle in your blind spot. At speeds over approximately 40mph, it monitors the area to the rear and sides of the car and detects whether the lane is occupied by another vehicle. If it is, LEDs on the corresponding door mirror warn you before you begin to pull out.
The optional Audi lane assist helps prevent you from drifting out of your chosen lane. A tiny image recognition camera watches the lane markings on either side. If you veer too far right or left, the system knows you're in danger and vibrates the steering wheel to alert you. If you change lanes using your indicators, the system knows that?s safe and temporarily switches itself off.
The German brand slogan "Vorsprung durch Technik" doesn't stop at power, performance and legendary Audi handling. We push the boundaries of safety, constantly looking for new ways to protect you and your passengers.
Adaptive technology improves on the original airbag concept significantly. In the event of a collision, the level of impact and the position of the seat are considered and the deployment force of the airbag is adjusted accordingly. Front and side airbags for both the driver and front passenger are standard across all A5 models.

If there's a head-on collision, the three-point inertia reel seat belts tighten to strap you to your seat more securely, limiting excessive movement caused by momentum.
The Audi Backguard system is designed into the body of the seat and counteracts the dangers of whiplash injuries to the neck and head in the event of a rear-end collision.
